"Back in the 80's Ray was accosted by a punk purist who claimed that the Hard-Ons did not know whether they were punk or heavy metal. And this was a big problem for the punk purist in question. Ray responded by saying that the Hard-Ons were actually a pop band in essence. Several years later, upon meeting another one of those punk purists, Ray gained inspiration to draw the dichotomy of heavy music ideology, as seen through many. This t-shirt design first appeared in 2000. A very limited run of this design was done. Here it is again for the first time in a quarter of a century"

Ray Ahn the artist-in-residence at the Hard-Ons read somewhere that "we know more about space than we do about the ocean". He then came up with this stunning design as a tribute to the spirit of exploration. He thinks that the same spirit applies to music.

YUMMY is perhaps the most commercially successful Hard Ons album - until I'M SORRY SIR, THAT RIFF'S BEEN TAKEN in 2021 blew it out of the water of course.
Gone were the lyrics designed to offend, gone were the cryptic and controversial visual imagery. Coming to the fore were the diamond-hard melodies of the gold medal variety.
The Hard Ons should have been huge. But they were called the Hard Ons. Australia was not ready for a multi-racial power-pop juggernaut. It may be now. Thirty-two years later.

May 2021. Ray, Blackie and Murray enter Parliament Studio in Leichhardt Sydney. Friend of well over 30 years Tim Rogers (You Am I) joins them as vocalist. The uber-talented Tim, being a long-term and devout fan of the band, understands the intrinsic DNA of the band and his transition into the bandâs fold turns out to be perfect and seamless.
The resulting 12 track album I'm Sorry Sir, That Riff's Been Taken is a heady blend of muscular power-pop and driving punk. Blackie, as usual, has come up with a stunning and concise set of tunes. The other members (including Tim) have all made contributions towards the compositions. The album is brilliantly mixed by Lachlan Mitchell and mastered by the virtuosic William Bowden.

Two unreleased tracks from the highly successful RIPPER '23 album session.
MISERABLE is a dramatic powerpop song that the Who would have been proud of at their wind-milling peak. FUCK OFF CUNT FEATURES 2 is a re-working of an old raging thrasher with the lyrics transcribed into medieval vernacular by Tim Rogers who boasts tertiary English study history.
This is an incredible document of the Hard-Ons at their peak.

PETER BLACK SOLO
Not happy with one new release Hard Ons' Peter Black has released two new solo albums! The acoustic If This Is The Hand That I'm Dealt paired with the electric I'm Gonna Cheat As Much As I Can, explore places where "pop" can go in all its many wonderful forms.
Again recorded at Pet Food Factory Studios with Jason Whalley and mixed by Lachlan Mitchell, guests include Ray Ahn - Hard Ons / Nunchukka Superfly, Heather Shannon - Jezebels and Lauren Friedman - Power Neptune Federation.
Beautifully produced pop.. and pop with a capital P too. I don't know why anyone should be surprised because everything Blackie has done is quality - from the Hard Ons up till now. But the addition of acoustic and harmony has taken Blackie into classic rock territory.. and if that means joining the likes of Brian Wilson and The Byrds why ever not. I'm sure there's still some thrashy punk left in the guy but for now this is absolutely bloomin' marvellous!
Captain Sensible (The Damned, Sensible Gray Cells)
These two fantastic albums are simply bursting with ideas and, both lyrically and musically, there are surprises at every turn. Peter Black has outdone himself. As a songwriter, he has never written better songs than these, and as a performer/producer he has never sounded better than this. The albums feel like musical conversations and listeners will be constantly amazed at where that conversation takes them. Fascinating, entertaining and bloody brilliant!
Dave Faulkner (The Victims, Hoodoo Gurus)
